The long distance golf driver is a development in golf club design that has been welcomed with open arms by many golfers. Up until about 20 years ago, the only way to increase your distance was to improve technique, but since then there has been an endless development of long distance golf drivers.
But do they actually work? Let’s take a look at the theory and the facts.
The short answer is that if the long distance driver is going to work for you, there is an essential proviso. This is that your swing needs to be consistent and accurate.
The long distance driver works due to basic laws of physics. The shaft is longer, which means that the speed of the club head as it strikes the ball increases, and therefore the ball goes further. The modern equipment has lighter shafts too, meaning you can swing faster to increase this impact speed even more.
All well and good, but here’s the kicker – with a longer shaft and higher speed, you get a bigger arc of the swing, and the sweet spot on the ball gets smaller and smaller! This means that to get the advantage of the physics of the design of this club, you need to consistently hit the ball at the exact correct point. If you don’t, you not only lose the advantages, but the same laws of physics start to work against you, and you actually lose distance instead of gaining it!
So the bottom line is that with a long distance driver, if you strike the ball at the wrong spot, even by a tiny fraction of an inch, all the advantages will disappear, and you may find yourself worse off than with a regular driver.
Some of these new distance drivers cost a lot of money, and it could be argued that the money could be better spent on some sessions in the nets to improve your swing!
In some cases you may even find that you get more distance by using a shorter club. This is a mental issue, that people hold a driver in their hand, and think they need to give the ball an extra hard wallop. That is simply incorrect, and the thought of hitting harder often ruins the swing.
So if your swing is not yet consistent, you might be better off taking a low iron or a driving iron, and work on increasing your accuracy first. Over time, you’ll find your distance shots improve.
If you have an accurate and predictable swing, then it could be a great time to move on to trying out a long distance driver.
So to sum up, long distance golf drivers do work, but you need to have the technical swing to get the full benefit.

Tiger Woods made a public apology and another appeal for measure of privacy on Wednesday, and he acknowledged that he let his family down without being specific. ”I have not been true to my values and the behavior my family deserves,” Woods said on his Web site following a magazine on which an alleged affair is reported.
It was his longest statement since a middle-of-the-night car crash outside his Florida home last week set off the greatest media scrutiny of Woods’ career and his 5-year-old marriage to former model Elin Nordegren. He did not go into detail and said he would deal with his ”personal failings” with his family.
”Those feelings should be shared by us alone,” he said.
Shortly after the investigation of the car accident ended Tuesday with a $164 citation for careless driving, Us Weekly reported that a Los Angeles cocktail waitress claims she had a 31-month affair with the world’s No. 1 golfer.
About three hours before Woods’ statement, the magazine released what it said was a voice mail — provided by the waitress, Jaimee Grubbs — that Woods left on her phone three days before his accident.
”I will strive to be a better person and the husband and father that my family deserves,” Woods said on his Web site. ”For all of those who have supported me over the years, I offer my profound apology.”
Woods’ career — as a golfer, a pitchman and perhaps the most recognized athlete in the world — has been largely without blemish since he turned pro at age 20.
Three of his sponsors — Nike, Gatorade and EA Sports — expressed support or commitment to Woods. Gillette said it had no plans to change its marketing programs. AT&T declined comment.
In the most critical comment from a player, Jesper Parnevik said he owed Nordegren an apology for introducing her to Woods. She once worked as a nanny for the Parnevik family.
”We probably thought he was a better guy than he is,” Parnevik told The Golf Channel from West Palm Beach, Fla., where he is in the final stage of PGA Tour qualifying.
Police said Woods’ wife told them she smashed out the back window of his Cadillac Escalade SUV with a golf club to help get him out after he struck a fire hydrant and tree.
”I would probably need to apologize to her and hope she uses a driver next time instead of a 3-iron,” Parnevik said, adding that he has not spoken to Woods since the accident.
”It’s a private thing, of course,” the Swede said. ”But when you are the guy he is — the world’s best athlete — you should think more before you do stuff … and maybe not ‘Just do it,’ like Nike says.”
But other professional athletes had sympathy for Woods.
Jason Taylor walked into the Miami Dolphins’ locker room and saw ESPN running a tease about Woods. He reached up and turned off the TV. ”Nobody’s damned business,” Taylor said.
Minnesota Vikings kicker Ryan Longwell lives in the same Isleworth gated community as Woods outside Orlando, Fla., and said it was ”crazy” in the neighborhood. He said his wife told him paparazzi were everywhere and helicopters hovered overhead.
”My wife is a blonde and wears sunglasses in Florida, so every time she comes out of the gate, they’re snapping pictures,” Longwell said. ”It’s a different thing than we’ve ever faced down there. It’s certainly a new wrinkle to it.
”You just pray for his family,” Longwell said. ”You pray for his wife and kids. Just pray that if what’s coming out is true that he can learn from it and move on.”
In its final report released Wednesday, the Florida Highway Patrol said Woods caused $3,200 in property damage, was not wearing a seat belt and was traveling 30 mph in a 25 mph zone.
The six-page report — which did not include statements from Woods, his wife or any witnesses — said Woods’ SUV rubbed up against bushes, crossed over a curb, onto a grass median and into a row of hedges before striking the fire hydrant and a tree. Damage to his Cadillac Escalade was estimated at $8,000.
Far more damaging to his image was the Us Weekly cover story.
Grubbs told the magazine she met Woods at a Las Vegas nightclub the week after the 2007 Masters — two months before Woods’ wife gave birth to their first child.
In the voice mail released by the magazine, a man says to Grubbs:
”Hey, it’s, uh, it’s Tiger. I need you to do me a huge favor. Um, can you please, uh, take your name off your phone. My wife went through my phone. And, uh, may be calling you. If you can, please take your name off that and, um, and what do you call it just have it as a number on the voice mail, just have it as your telephone number. That’s it, OK. You gotta do this for me. Huge. Quickly. All right. Bye.”
The Associated Press could’t confirm if Woods was the caller. But the first statement on Friday which spoke of a ‘minor accident’ after the car crash fueled speculation about a domestic dispute all around.

The emotions are riding high with this Health Care/Health Insurance topic. It definitely is a barn burner issue. The present system people have said – it’s all about money and greed. We need to get at the core of issue asking – Why is it there are so many sick people in America? We have been trained and used as consumers to eat all sorts of unhealthy food. Yes a much better term is junk food, processed food, high-fat food and high-sugar and salt foods etc. We have become accustomed to take poor care of ourselves. One recent study estimated that 50 percent of the increase in health care spending over the past 20 years could be attributed to the soaring rate of obesity, a condition that now accounts for a tenth of all spending on health care. Normal weight people are living longer and now over the age of 90. However the surveys and studies show that the overweight are living shorter lives. The overweight have earlier deaths due to overweight health problems and unnecessary overweight developed diseases.

The overweight are breaking the bank and actually killing themselves as the body cannot continually take the abuse. This is not all about the health care system but rather about us. Let’s start now and eat healthier foods, less food, and get moving physically.

Positives and Negatives of TaylorMade Burner Irons
The Burner series are the latest addition to TaylorMade and the Burner Iron combines technology and hot clubfaces to achieve greater speed. TaylorMade has described this iron to have “SuperFast Technology,” which presumes that the iron is intended to hit the ball far.
Negatives
The appearance of TaylorMade Burner Irons has raised some discontent among players. For an iron that is fully equipped with advanced technology, the clubhead´s look is a bit contained. Although the cavity marks the Inverted Core Technology in red and the back of the clubface bears the Burner XD badge along with the Sound Managing Cavity badge, these aesthetic qualities do not appear at address.
Another negative aspect is that the titanium face is not as wear resistant as one would think. The clubface gets scratched and discolored quite easily. Titanium clubfaces generally have darker marks that are more apparent.
In addition, the offset of the longest Burner Iron is more than some players can get used to and some of the Burner irons are harder to hit. Although TaylorMade claims these irons offer maximum forgiveness, they actually are less forgiving than the r7 CGB Max.
Positives
Aside from these questionable details, the TaylorMade Burner Iron is able to achieve distance. Despite its extreme claims about forgiveness, these irons are still forgiving enough to let players hit decent distances even with mis-hits. This is an advantage for higher handicappers who cannot get consistent hits.
However, too much forgiveness and you will have trouble detecting where on the clubface you are hitting. The benefit of these irons is that they offer consistent contact throughout the game.
The TaylorMade Burner Iron is geared towards the mid to high handicap player and for those with swing speeds between 70 and 90. These irons are able to get the ball on high trajectory and come with long shafts. Overall, these irons do not feel as solid as forged irons but they are successful at hitting long distances.

The Taylor Made Burner driver is aptly named. It has the style and technology to burn up the fairway with long, powerful, and accurate drives, and comes from a company that takes a back seat to no one in its ability to come up with innovative ways to get the ball flying.
